What Teachers are Saying About The American International School of Mozambique (AISM)
Working at this school gives you great travel opportunities and it’s a good overall package, including housing. Mozambique is a beautiful country, but it’s not that safe. You have to be very vigilant.
I lived in Mozambique. No school is perfect but I liked the community, and it’s a beautiful and chilled place to live. Holidays were spent on the beach, doing scuba or whale watching, or on safari. Maputo is a busy city with some decent bars and restaurants, good music and plenty of character.
AISM is a solid school, but overall the country ranks really low for expat happiness.

General Overview for Teaching Families
The American International School of Mozambique is a well-established IB Continuum school located on a 10-acre campus just north of central Maputo. Originally founded by the U.S. Embassy, the school has grown into a leading international school catering to around 600 students from various nations.
AISM offers the full International Baccalaureate programme (PYP, MYP, and DP). Along with a solid reputation for academic rigour, it also focuses on holistic learning and co-curricular opportunities. Students participate in events through the ISSEA network and engage in Model UN conferences, arts, STEAM initiatives, and competitive sports.
The majority of the teaching staff is made up of international teachers. Teachers can access international conferences, in-house training, and learn from visiting experts.
The school’s PTA helps to welcome new families and help them to settle in. They host events throughout the year to celebrate the diverse cultures that make up the AISM community.
AISM offers a competitive salary and generous teaching benefits designed to support families. Perks include staff accommodation, private healthcare, relocation and flight allowances, and tuition coverage for staff children. Based on our research, the salary is enough to comfortably support a family.
Teaching contracts are initially two years and the school year begins in August. AISM presents an exciting opportunity to live and work in a vibrant African capital in a diverse, high quality school.
