What Teachers are Saying About Colegio Anglo Colombiano

I work in a different international school in Bogota, but I’ve heard great things about this school. Bogota itself is an amazing place to live with a family. We’ve fallen in love with Colombia and it’s people. If you make an effort with Spanish, parents will respect that. In Colombia, family is very important and I really enjoy the culture.

CURRENT INTERNATIONAL TEACHER, BOGOTA

Anglo Colombiano is a good school. The salary is high for Colombia, the location is excellent and there are lots of expat staff working at the school. The only issue really is that the student behaviour can be a little challenging at times.

The pay is one of the best in the country and the location is very good. It’s a decent PYP school if you want IB experience, but some kids can be very spoilt. The school is very much run by parents and there’s very little student diversity. It’s more of a rich private school for Colombians.

EX-TEACHER AT COLEGIO ANGLO COLOMBIANO

I have been in Colombia for about 10 years now. I can support my family (with my wife working part time) and we live a good middle class life here.

INTERNATIONAL TEACHER, BOGOTA, COLOMBIA

Bogota is a great place to live. The people here are friendly and things are quite easy to buy. Just be aware that it is expensive, and traveling isn’t cheap.

The school has good facilities and plenty of resources. There are lots of social opportunities and the people who work here are great.

Safety, Adaptability & Cost of Living

  • Safety: Fair – Like many cities, Bogotá requires a level of awareness, particularly in certain neighborhoods. Many expat families live comfortably in areas like Rosales, Chico, or Usaquén. Gated communities and apartments with security are common, and the school can provide guidance on housing options.
  • Adaptability: High – Bogotá is a multicultural capital with a strong expat presence. You can access a range of family-friendly activities, from parks and outdoor spaces like Monserrate and Simón Bolívar, to museums, weekend markets, and cafés that are family friendly. Spanish language skills are helpful and the school offers help with lessons.
  • Cost of Living: Moderate – Housing, domestic help, and everyday essentials like groceries and childcare are pretty affordable. International products and imported goods are expensive. With generous allowances provided by the school, many families are able to live well in Bogotá.

General Overview for Teaching Families

Colegio Anglo Colombiano (CAC) is a large, not-for-profit international school in Bogotá, that’s been around since 1956. It caters to almost 2,000 students across pre-school, primary, and secondary, offering the full International Baccalaureate continuum (PYP, MYP, and DP) within a bilingual, Anglo-Colombian cultural context. The school is accredited by the IB, CIS, and COBIS.

The school has a reputation for developing principled, open-minded global citizens who think critically and engage meaningfully with the world. It aims to balance strong academic performance with holistic education, encouraging moral, creative, physical, and emotional development.

While our research shows that the student body is predominantly international, feedback from teachers shows that many of the students are actually Colombian (who may hold dual passports). English is the primary language of instruction, but Spanish is widely spoken within the school community and the school provides allowances for lessons to help teachers (and their families).

The school doesn’t accept newly qualified teachers. You’ll need to have at least two years of experience and a recognised teaching qualification to apply. Recruitment usually starts in November and the school year begins in August.

Teachers are provided with comprehensive benefits including relocation support (flights, shipping, temporary accommodation), private healthcare, retirement contributions, help with visas, and allowances for housing and PD. The school also offers 100% tuition for dependent children, access to an on-site doctor, daily meals for teachers, and subsidised childcare. There is also a gym on-site that teachers can use and you can use school buses to travel to and from school. You can also benefit from a re-signing bonus if you extend your contract.

Bogotá offers a dynamic lifestyle, with historic charm and a modern cultural scene. While the city’s high-altitude climate means it’s cool year-round, there is a decent ability to save depending on your lifestyle. Expect a two-year initial contract and a welcoming school culture.
