Best International Schools Latin America: For Families

Bustling San Nicolas St market in Buenos Aires with stalls and crowds - Argentina is home to some of the best international schools in Latin America.

Best International Schools in Latin America for Families

If youโ€™re considering a move to Latin America with your family, choosing the right international school is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make.

Whether you’re an experienced international teacher or planning your first overseas post, weโ€™re here to help you discover the best family-friendly international schools in Latin America.

Weโ€™re collecting real insights and data to showcase schools that not only offer strong academic programsโ€”but also support international teaching families with practical benefits and a welcoming community.

We’re also undertaking our own independent research to showcase family friendly international schools, like:

Based on our criteria, these schools all rank highly for teaching families.

Traditional day of the dead costume - female. With face paint.
Colombian house facade with palm trees and a wooden door.

We’ll also let you know which schools to avoid as teaching families. For example, our first family reviewed international school for Latin America is the American School of Guatemala. Feedback from current teaching families at the school told us they wouldn’t recommend it for teaching families.

And then there are other schools which are a mixed bag – like Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Cambridge College – both well known schools in Lima, Peru. While the package is good for families, adjustment is likely to be more challenging given that most of the students are Peruvian (so fitting in could be tough).

St Paul’s School in Sรฃo Paulo, Brazil, is another good school of families, but there are a few things to consider to ensure it’s right for your family. Same goes for the American School Foundation of Monterrey, Mexico and Craighouse School in Santiago.

Colegio Gran Bretaรฑa in Bogota, Colombia is another highly ranked school – though with only 90% of tuition covered for up to two dependents it may be challenging for some families depending on your situation. Colegio Nueva Granada offers similar benefits.

Newton College in Lima, Peru has a good reputation. But with only 50% fee remission offered (based on our research) it may be challenging for many teachers with children. And Santiago College in Chile has the potential to be a great school for families, but with limited benefit information available, it was difficult to give it a high rating.

What Makes a School Family-Friendly?

We know that a good teaching package is obviously super important, but so is how the school supports your family beyond the contract.

Thatโ€™s why weโ€™re looking into:

  • Tuition discounts or full waivers for your own children
  • Housing benefits or subsidies
  • Annual flight allowances and relocation support
  • Health insurance that covers the whole family
  • Support for non-teaching spouses and partners
  • Childcare and early years programs
  • Language support for children new to Spanish or Portuguese
  • Inclusive school culture and community feel
  • Work-life balance and professional development for teachers

Whether you’re heading to Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Bogotรก, Lima, or Sรฃo Paulo, weโ€™re working to give you a clear picture of what life and work will look like for your whole family.
